Handmade reproduction of a fog horn, used as a maritime signaling instrument. Made of polished brass.
The fog horn is a traditional nautical instrument used to produce sound signals when fog, heavy rain or darkness reduced visibility at sea.
Before the invention of radar and modern navigation systems, sailors relied on sound signals to announce their presence and prevent collisions.
For centuries, bells, horns and other sound-producing instruments were used. During the 19th century, as maritime traffic increased and steam-powered navigation developed, more powerful fog horns operated by compressed air or steam were introduced.
Inspired by traditional maritime signalling instruments, this brass fog horn takes us back to a time when sailors used sound to find their way and signal their presence through the fog.
Its elegant golden finish and traditional design make it a piece full of history and nautical charm.
